Welcome to my teaching web site!

Here you will find information that pertains to the courses I teach. The first section is devoted to my teaching philosophy and the goals I pursue when I teach culture, language and literature.

In the second section, titled "Language Courses," you will lean about Beginner's Ukrainian I & II (UKR 111-112) and The Ukrainian Speaking World I & II (UKR 211-212).

The third section, titled "For Children," presents the course Children's Literature in Ukrainian (UKR 405 and UKR 505).

The fourth section, "Pre-secular Culture," is devoted to the following courses:

  • Medieval and Early Modern Culture (UKR 469 and UKR 569)
  • Early Modern Poetry and Drama (UKR 515)
  • Early Modern Prose (UKR 516)

The section "Mysticism" is devoted to an interdisciplinary course I have recently introduced. Titled Mysticism in Literature and the Arts: East and West (MLCS 431 and MLCS 531), this course will be taught  in winter of 2011 by a team of scholars from various departments in the Faculty of Arts, including MLCS. Many members of the teaching team contribute to the Religious Studies Advisory Council.

The sixth section, "Diaspora & Dissent," discusses UKR 474 and UKR 574. They are devoted to Ukrainian culture and literature produced after 1917 and before the collapse of the USSR.

The last section, "Ukrainian Literature Today" is devoted to UKR 475 and UKR 575, which address the transformation of Ukrainian culture on the eve of independence and in post-colonial Ukraine.
